The Arsenal Women's Football Club Academy Foundation Phase Lead Coach will lead on an effective coaching programme for players aged 9 to 12 year olds in the Girls' Academy, delivering and developing performance pathways and plans, while creating an optimum environment for youth players to develop and grow.

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading on the development of the Foundation phase through support of the age group coaches with their planning, delivery and management of training sessions and match days, as well as supporting all players and their development through this phase.

The post holder will play a pivotal role in the development of youth players aged 9 to 12 years old, ultimately creating the female 1st team players and international players of the future.

The role reports to the Academy Manager on a part-time consultancy basis (12 hrs per week throughout the football season August- May). The role will include evening attendance at all training sessions, occasional daytime meetings, weekend fixtures, potential trips/tours as well as some flexible administration/co-ordination support.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for overseeing the planning, delivering and reviewing of the coaching programme across the Foundation Phase age groups.
  • Responsible for the line management of all the Foundation Phase age group coaches to ensure high standards of coach delivery to support the holistic development of all players within the U9s to U12s age groups.
  • Manage all day to day issues related to the Foundation age groups including players, parents and coaching teams.
  • To work closely with age group coaches to ensure the delivery of age appropriate Individual Development plans (IDPs) for all players.
  • Work closely with the Academy Manager and Academy Operations Officer to ensure a suitable but challenging fixture programme is delivered for all age groups.
  • To liaise closely with the multi disciplinary support team (e.g. Medical, Physical Performance, Education, Safeguarding, Psychology) when planning and delivering coaching sessions and matches
  • Ensure all Foundation age group coaching sessions and games are fully covered with suitably qualified coaches at all times and provide cover for sessions as and when needed.
  • To provide coach support to evaluate both player and coach performance and provide suitable feedback and development support when needed.
  • To ensure that all age group coaches update player/session data is up to date on the clubs PMA online system.
  • To ensure all performance reviews are conducted by age group coaches, in line with the club requirements, Ensuring appropriate feedback is delivered to players and parents both formally in meetings, and informally as required over the season.
  • To provide the Academy Manager with reports on all players following the performance review meetings to support the retain/release decisions on all players.

MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/Qualifications/Training:

Sport related degree or equivalent experience

  • UEFA B / FA Level 3 and working towards UEFA A Licence (A Licence is desirable)
  • FA Youth Award (Advanced Youth Award desirable)
  • Current FA Licensed Coaches Club Member
  • Up to date FA Emergency Aid Qualification - FA Basic First Aid for Sport Qualification (BFAS) or FA Level 2 Emergency First Aid in Football (EFAiF)
  • Knowledge and understanding of child protection issues including holding a current FA Safeguarding Children Workshop certificate
  • An accepted FA Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Disclosure (previously known as an FA CRB Disclosure)
  • Any education or teaching experience would also be desirable

Specific Experience:

  • Experience of coaching young players in the Foundation Phase at an elite level
  • Experience of mentoring and developing other coaches as a mentor or coach educator
  • Experience of managing individuals and teams
  • Previous experience of devising long/medium/short term plans and developing individual player development programmes
  • It is preferable to have experience working with female elite players

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of the standard of players required at Arsenal Women FC and an understanding and knowledge of the overall Women's Talent Pathway in England
  • An understanding and implications of Long Term Player Development and how to develop young players
  • Able to work as part of a coaching team and the ability to motivate others
  • Able to build a strong rapport with the players in the age range
  • Ability to set realistic goals for the coaches and players within the age groups
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Motivated and driven individual
  • Commitment and passion for the game
  • A dynamic, confident communicator (verbal, written) whilst able to adapt style and approach as and when required
